iPad project - student presentations

Students involved in the iPad project did their first presentation yesterday in class. There was no indication in the presentation how students used the iPad and whether they found it useful.

From my observations in class here are some ways students were using the iPad yesterday while groups were presenting:

• verifying the claims made in the presentations while groups presented

1. via Googling the information
2. Wikipedia
3. Blogsphere

• Back-channeling

1. group members discussing via Instant Messaging and occasionally on BUZZ

• One group used the iPad to present additional information while talking about a graph (Map) using the projector

The main focus of this project is to use iPad out in the field to verify data and information collected. This has been problematic so far to implement as the iPad's issued to students are not 3G capable hence we ordered a 3G Vodem which hasn't turned up yet. Also using the iPad version of the calculator - this is again problematic since students had already bought a HP calculator and have been using it for a while - changing to the iPad version of the calculator is taking time.

Hoping to meet the students next week and see if the iPad is helping them in any other way.

Ping.fm and Seesmic Test - blogging from my iPhone/iPad

Test post from my iPhone using Seesmic and ping.fm hope this works. I have added almost all my web 2 accounts possible to Ping.fm to test if it will update all or just some. I am intentionally typing to go beyond 140 characters let's see if it will update twitter or just my blogs - blogger and typepad .... I should be over 140 characters by now so here it goes.... Also attaching a picture .... To test the limitations.... Here it goes ok uploading picture failed!!!!! I wonder why something wrong with tweetpic?

Odiogo.com - give your blog some sound will ya!!!!

If you are not familiar with the service offered by Odiogo.com then read on. Odiogo.com basically is a plugin service to your blog and once installed it converts your blog posts into podcast (text-to-speech)and are made available to visitors to your blog. It also provides an RSS feed and page for people so they can download it when needed. This blog post should have a Odiogo button that you can try out to get a feel of what it sounds like. The text-to-speech conversion is the best I have come across so far, the quality is great.
How to install it on your Blog?
All you have to do is visit www.odiogo.com and enter your blog address and email address on top of the website, follow the wizard that opens and follow the instructions, it's simply.... you can't go wrong.
Note: the service is not real-time, it takes sometime for the audio file to be available on your blog post.
